Benjamin Jeng Pang Lo (1927 – 2018), a Tai Chi teacher who has had a great influence on many Tai Chi practitioners, passed away on October 12, 2018. He was 93 years old.
I felt this video to be a wonderful short documentary and view into the inspiration, spirit and humor of this wonderful man.
A Brief Insight
Ben originally sought Tai Chi grandmaster Professor Chang Man Ching’s famous medical advice due to illness, and only began studying Tai Chi to “make my body stronger so that it could absorb the medicine he was giving me”. He continued his studies with Cheng Man Ching for twenty-six years until the Professor’s death in 1975. Of all of Professor Cheng Man Ching’s students of Tai Chi, Master Benjamin Pang Jeng Lo is one of the most respected.
Ben was a humble man and didn’t want his passing to draw a lot of attention. His last wishes for the Tai Chi Community were that we all practice hard and continue to improve ourselves and progress the art.
I was fortunate to have met Ben Lo and study with him at some local workshops. I only wish I had the opportunity to study under him more. Ben, you will be greatly missed, but we will carry on your spirit with our dedicated practice of Tai Chi.
